Wog goes to the Barbers.

When Greta got her first pro cut we took her to a little girly-girl salon with rocking horse seats, suckers, and cotton candy hairspray.
But for Oliver, our manly man, we took him to Rudy's Barbershop.
No sweets, just combs, scissors, and tattoos.
He was as still as a mouse*, and came out looking some 3 years older.

Happy Barber Day Big Boy!

*To our great surprise!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!
This morning Greta and Oliver were invited to their very first Tea Party, with genuine tea service! Greta*, our hostess made a lavish spread of heart shaped scones, tiny quiches, and all manner of sweet treats. It was a special morning with hugs all around.
I hope you have a special day!
Xo!

Sochi Olympics

The Olympics start tonight, so good night folks I'll see you in 2 weeks!
I joke, but only kind of.
I love the Olympics with a starving passion, that 2 weeks of constant 24 hr a day viewing cannot even quench. You know that.
I will not be getting enough sleep, because Primetime coverage is the worst and dangles the best events into the late late hours. I will scream, I will cheer, and guaranteed I will cry.
Can't wait!
Let the games begin!

Good Reads

A dear friend gave me this book over Christmas.
I think buying a book for a friend can be just as much of a risk as maybe buying them jeans or underwear.
You have to be pretty confident in the fit.
But the reward is great, and I loved this! Masterfully written by a woman younger than me (28!)*   It's a mystery, or string of mysteries, set in New Zealand during the gold rush. The many single threads of this story weave in and out for some 800 pages, with the picture still forming a whole up until the very last page.
I just finished it last night. And while finishing a big ol' book like this usually follows with a few days of stewing and pouting. (The lingering resentment of being deported.)
I'm in the happy situation of being able to climb out of one book -have a peek around- and then let myself tumble into the next. I keep hearing amazing things about the Goldfinch.
Good reads are such a luxury!

*Agh! What have I done lately? Jokes, I know exactly what I've been doing, and I won't pretend to sneeze on the process of rearing children. But still, what a wonderful accomplishment to have a Man Booker Prize before 30!
