Greta woke up with a little fever and a sniffly nose this morning.
To celebrate we snuggled up on the couch and watched "The Red Balloon" and munched on a piece of last nights baguette. My friend had recommended the movie to me this last week and it seemed like just the ticket for our quiet get-well morning.
For those of you haven't seen it, it's a sweet 1956 French movie about a boy who befriends a red balloon that ends up following him around the city.
Greta loved to watch the boy and the balloon look for each other in and out of the frames and would say "EH-WEH!" (Translated: There it is!) each time they reunited.
She furrowed her brows at the bullies and gasped when all of the balloons of Paris came to cheer the boy up. Sensibly, when the balloons carried him off she cried "Uh-Ohhhh", (where I felt a small satisfaction. As any mother hopes their child recognizes legitimate danger when faced with it)...but to keep the magic intact we cheered him on and decided his friends the balloons would land him safely where and when his heart desired.
With very little dialogue, light music, and the short running time of 34 minutes, it was more like guiding Greta through a picture story than watching a movie.
Charme!
