One Year

One year ago my good friend Meg was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. So today she threw a party and we celebrated one full year of the ups and downs (of blood sugar) with balloons, candy, paper hats, and fun, fun, fun.

Spoons!

Yesterday was Greta's wellness check up with her Pediatrician. All good news, still the tallest with the biggest head. We learned a few new things too!
The Dr. told us that she can be learning how to use her own utensils now if we give her the chance to, and what do you know, later that day...

She loves the control and we love to eat our own burritos without interruption. Heaven!

Sisters

This last week I painted a sister (left) for the striking young lady I did a few years ago (right). I have always loved the simple elegance of this painting and was thrilled to be commissioned to do another one.
Although very similar I like that they cannot be copied, and that each has it's own sense of personality.

Unhappy Hipsters

There are a couple (more than a couple) of blogs I frequent to chuckle, and look at lovely things to inspire. Unhappyhipsters.com is one of the former.


The black hole had sucked everything out of the playroom. Save his sister or the coloring books? He made a split-second decision.

Happy St Patty's!

I love St. Patrick's Day!
I don't know how the Irish get such awesome participation for their holiday, but it seems like when March 17th rolls around everyone* is ready to wear green and party.
And I cannot resist a reason to holiday!
So, first things first, I've got my green scarf on (don't want to be pinched! Although, frankly I would probably just get excited that somebody is also taking this holiday seriously). Greta and I took an educational trip to Whole Foods to learn about Soda bread, and buy things like Dubliner cheese, hard cider, and something green to leave for the neighbors.
Then tonight we will feast on Corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes and eat it heaven knows where. Our downstairs is currently under heavy renovation as we (or rather Kent, my dad, and our guy friends) ripped out all of the old slate downstairs which leaves us without flooring for the time being. That business is a post of it's own, but in the meantime it would be sufficient to say that we are taking all of our meals in our rooms.

*excluding my dear husband. "Are you wearing green?" were the first words out of my mouth this morning (showing a remarkable dedication to the holiday if I do say so myself as I was mostly asleep.) He appeared unimpressed by the idea. Probably, they don't pinch at Microsoft...something somewhere about harassment.

The Lost Roll

My friend Meg was given a really cool camera that had belonged to her grandpa. In it was a whole roll of film that was never developed. 

What a neat time capsule to stumble upon?

On our day out she brought that camera along and took a few pictures of Greta romping in her room. I love these photos! They are so light saturated and warm, like a dream sequence.  

They look like they belong in the distant past and remind me that every day with her is so sweet.

Little Green Bird

I found this little gold frame in an antiques shop about a year ago and have been keeping it close until I found the 'just right' use for it.  

No room was special enough, no artwork suitable. 

So I kept it stashed away in a closet (a silly place for one of my favorite posessions.) Finally the 'just right' idea for a painting flew into my mind this afternoon in the shape of a little green bird nestled among sprays of springtime. 

 I think it is a happy match.
